HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM THEME
Currently for WQVGA Only, but should work on other resolutions.
I wanted to make a tutorial of this because I want to see what other people can come up with.
Once you get the hang of it you'll be making themes in no time.
So let's begin....
The first thing to do is download WinCE as it is the most easiest and important tool to have. If you want to edit the slider and home icons download PE Explorer as well. Unless you're an expert at registry edits, I'd recommend you download another theme to edit. My suggestion would be to download either WB7 Premium or one of my later themes on the thread listed above because they give you the most content to edit. If you want to keep it basic then download one of my earlier themes and edit that.
If editing an existing theme
Step 1. Open theme with WinCE and select files. After that find a file with a .tsk attached. Double click it and change the .tsk to .cab and then extract all files to your pc somewhere you'll remember.
Step 2. Next find where you saved the files. Use whatever image editing program to edit the images you want ( I use GIMP ). Remember to keep them the same size as the ones you are editing.
Step 3. Find the .tsk that you turned into a .cab earlier and open that with WinCE. Once opened change the company name to your name and application name to the name of your theme. Now the only
way I've got it to work is if I put QVGA at the end ( i.e My themeQVGA). Then on the right go to the registry. Open up HKEY_CURRENT_USER and click all the plus signs to open it up completely.
Start at the top and everywhere you see My Document\Themes\ ( whatever the theme name is )\ (image id), replace the ( whatever the theme name is ) with your theme name. Then it's time to make your
backgrounds. You'll need two, stwater_240_400.jpg and stwater_400_240.jpg. As the names suggest keep them at that resolution. Once you have your backgrounds ready go back to WinCE
and click the "files" link on the left side. Drag and drop your two background files in that section, when the box pops, select the location tab. You'll have to make two new files under the My Documents
folder. The first file to make will be " Themes" and then from there select create new folder again and then name that " (whatever your theme name is that you put in the registry)". Select "Hard Coded
Path" and then okay. Then go up to file and select save as. Now save it as "(yourthemenameQVGA.tsk)" make sure you put the .tsk at the end and remember where you saved it.
Step 4. Now it's the time to make your .cab to install the theme on your phone. Open WinCE and select New in the top. Put your name in the company name and then name your theme again. And then just click next all the way through.
Now take all the files that you edited and the .tsk you just created and drag and drop them into the files section. When the box pops up select the My Document>Themes>"Your theme name" folder and select Hard Coded Path
and click okay. After that go to the file tap in the toolbar and go to save as, save your .cab to whatever you want to call it but make sure to include .cab at the end i.e yourthemename.cab.
Step 5. Test it. Hook your phone up to your computer and save the newely made .cab, I have a folder on my storage card called 6.5 themes. After you transfer it to your phone install it. When you install it make sure you install it to your device.
Once installed, on your phone go to start>settings>today>and find the theme and select okay.
